OPEN BURNING CLOSURE EACH YEAR DURING DECLARED FIRE SEASON

BURN PERMITS ARE REQUIRED

OPEN BURNING RULES AND REGULATIONS

Open burning is defined as the burning of yard debris, paper and cardboard outside of a burning barrel.

Open burning and burning in a burn barrel require a valid permit. Requiring a burn permit allows fire district personnel an opportunity each year to educate or remind our citizens on the hazards and liabilities of having fires on their property.

Permits may be obtained during regular business hours at the Jefferson County Fire and EMS main station in Madras.

Permits are not required for small recreational fires at 1 and 2 family dwellings. See below for details on outdoor burning and recreational fires.
